German for “splash” or “sparkling,” a spritz in Italy is a wine-based apperitivo (aperitif) commonly served in the Veneto region in the northeast of the country. This refreshing drink is made simply by adding a splash of a bitter liquor like Campari or Aperol to white wine or prosecco (Italian sparkling wine) and topping it off with a bit of sparkling mineral water. Experiment with the recipe and find a balance that is to your liking. Be sure to decorate your glass with a twist or slice of lemon or orange!
