Torta for breakfast and dessert

Torta in Italian means literally, cake, but it is not only a cake, it can be served at any meal, breakfast, lunch, snack, main course or dessert. The name gives the indication that something good is incased in some form of dough. In Italian, the reference to torta can be; Torta Salata -savory tart or Torta Dolce- sweet tart. The savory tortas are usually filled with cheeses of all kind but especially ricotta, braised vegetables in season and usually cured meats such as prosciutto, salami, mortadella and sausages are added. Eggs are almost always included as a binding element as well as for flavor and nutrition.
